Who We Are

History

The South Bay Chapter was formed in 1993 by a small group of puppy raisers who happened to meet and shared a common interest in Canine Companion for Independence (CCI).   They learned there were CCI graduates with Service Dogs in the area and felt it would be beneficial to work together.   We have grown to over 50 Service, Skilled Companion, Hearing and Facility Dog teams plus several Breeder Caretakers, active Puppy Raisers and numerous volunteers.

Activities

Our primary responsibility is to raise public awareness about CCI.  We do presentations and demonstrations to organized groups such as service clubs, church groups and schools.  We also participated in many public events such as corporate health fairs, the Abilities Expo, Bark in the Park, and the Los Gatos Christmas Parade.

CCI Chapters also organize local fund-raisers. In the past, we hosted a charity golf tournament at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy and  Santa Paws events. We also participated in community fundraising events such as The Human Race, the Silicon Valley Charity Ball and the Small Brewers Festival in Mountain View.

We also organize social events just to get together and to have fun. It may be a dinner, a picnic, or an outing. Annual events are at least one "Play Day" for graduate dogs, breeders, and the older pups in training and pool parties.
