Some people wait a lifetime for a miracle...

We raise them one at a time.

Nora

Nora is a Black Labrador Retriever. Her mother was Moonbeam and her father was Caron. She was raised by Jill and John Leipelt of San Jose. Jill is a first grade teacher and Nora came to school with her every day. In class she would lay quietly under a table until she was called to join the class for an activity. Nora was Jill's fourth puppy. Two were released and are now pampered pet companions to their new owners and one made a career change to a drug detection dog with a police department. Jill co-raised her fifth puppy with a fellow puppy raiser. Nora4.jpg (15546 bytes) Nora2.jpg (10322 bytes)
After five years, all the students and staff are used to having CCI puppies around and know the "rules" about interacting with them. Nora attended student assembly meetings and went on field trips with the students. She even celebrated her first birthday with her classmates and invited some of her fellow CCI puppies from Puppy Class.

Nora is the first South Bay Champion puppy to graduate as a Hearing Dog. She just graduated in February 1999 and is now the partner to Kristin Lizor of San Diego, CA. Kristin is profoundly deaf and will be depending on Nora to alert her to sounds such as the phone ringing, an alarm sounding, someone knocking at the door or calling her name. Kristen is getting married in March and her fiancé is also deaf. Kristen is currently working on getting her masters degree with a goal to work with deaf children. Nora will have the opportunity to introduce the Hearing Dog program to many people.
