Building a Legacy

Canine Companions for Independence established a dog breeding program for the purpose of breeding dogs with the traits and temperament desired for successful Assistance Dogs.  CCI maintains a breeding colony of Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and crosses of the two breeds. CCI also has a cooperative relationship with Guide Dogs for the Blind and other Assistance Dog organizations to exchange breeders.
CCI breeders come from CCI’s own puppies.  They were raised as a CCI puppy and were chosen to become breeders because they have the attributes of quality assistance dogs.

Once selected, they are placed with Breeder Caretaker families who whelp and care for the litters for the first seven to eight weeks.
